42nd Asphalt Day took place on 11th November in Sokos Hotel Viru Conference Centre. This year the focus was on the studies initiated by the Estonian Road Cluster and its partners.

An overview was given of the survey that was conducted among companies as part of the road sector competence study, of results of the pilot project on the use of quality assurance equipment in asphalt laying, of new options regarding the use of cement in infrastructure construction, and of the results of the first stage of a long-term bitumen study.

An expert from Finland talked about the positive experiences of BIM implementation in road construction, and an expert from Sweden helped restore our faith in timber as a suitable material for bridge construction. 
An overview of current issues was also given, incl. change in funding allocated to the road sector and its impact on the volume of road construction works in the near future; the future plans of Eesti Teed  - a topic that is of special interest to companies who are active in the road maintenance market; and the experiences and challenges related to hot recycling which is an increasingly popular method of surface preservation.
