On 17 March the Estonian Road Cluster and Stratum OÜ signed a contract to carry out a road maintenance ITS study. The aim of the study is to find ways for improving the effectiveness of winter road maintenance and road safety by implementing ITS systems.
The study will identify current bottlenecks in winter maintenance, map the situation in Estonia and neighbouring countries, and assess the options of implementing ITS solutions to achieve said goals.
The study will include a survey of all major companies operating in the field of road maintenance in Estonia, as well as of persons responsible for commissioning road maintenance on state and local government level. ITS solutions that are already used in road maintenance as well as solutions still in development will be mapped through foreign partners. An overview will be given of research papers and case studies that have been published on this topic.
The study will be completed and delivered in June 2014.
The study will be supported by Enterprise Estonia and the European Regional Development Fund.
